So you're interested in our TelemetrEZ for adding FrSky Telemetry data to your 9x but you haven't yet purchased your FrSky equipment?  Let's see if I can help.  (please take note this document was authored November 20, 2012 and is not guaranteed to stay current)

You're going to need a transmitter module (attaches to your 9x system), and at least one receiver (goes in your aircraft).  For the transmitter module, you have two choices (someone please let me know if these pictures go dead... I'm pulling them right from frsky):

Why to get it Where to get it*
The DJT Module is an excellent choice. It fits into the module bay of the 9x radio perfectly. The downside? If you have the version of 9x that has the stock module and its wired through the case to the top antenna (ie. a Turnigy) then you have to consider if you want to a) snip the antenna and not use the stock system any more or b) carefully re-route the stock antenna to the module so that its... well... modular (as it probably should have been!). If you don't know what I'm talking about, then remove your 9x's stock module and take a look. If there's a wire coming off the back... consider how you'll put the DJT module in the stock module's place.

While HobbyKing sells it (and may be more convenient to non-USA customers) be advised that it only comes in a combo with the somewhat outdated D8R-II Plus receiver.

The DHT is the "Do it yourself" version.  You'd stick this inside your 9x and solder the various connections accordingly.  I wouldn't recommend this except that it allows you to keep your stock module the way it is and wire up some sort of switch to go between the two.  I prefer to have everything in modules (that's sort of the point of them) but to each their own.

For the receiver, there are several choices.  I'm only listing the models that have not yet been discontinued as of the time of writing.  Be cautions that some websites (including FrSky's themselves) list receivers in the "Telemetry Series" that are not actually capable of delivering telemetry data!  They are compatible with the telemetry transmitter module, but only in so far that your model will fly with it, not that it will report back data (and that's the whole point).  In general, look for the word "Telemetry" to be written on the unit itself.  The following are all examples.

The D8R-XP supports the latest protocols (CPPM) and is, at the time of this writing, the latest and greatest.  8 Channels. Alofthobbies.com

The D8R-II Plus is supposedly identical to the XP as far as hardware is concerned, and with a programmer can be updated to the XP firmware as well.  It might be a few dollars cheaper but it will likely be discontinued soon. Alofthobbies.com

The D6FR is something I have no experience with but looks to be a 6-channel version of the above.  Use this in smaller craft. Alofthobbies.com

Slightly smaller again, the D4R-II is a 4 channel receiver. Alofthobbies.com

 *  Note: I only post links to retailers that I personally have experience with. I'm not deliberately excluding anyone else.  I've had positive experiences with each retailer listed (in HobbyKing's case, I've also had many, many bad experiences.  But damned if they don't have great prices and selection!)

WARNING:  Just a couple of pitfalls to avoid.  HobbyKing sells a different but similar combo at an attractive price.  The receiver it comes with is NOT telemetry compatible!  Similarly, the (discontinued but still available) V8HT looks very similar to the DHT but at a lower price.  It is NOT a telemetry transmitter.
